What is this golden yew, and can it still go into the ground this autumn?

You have a yellow-green yew in a pot. The question is not only its name, but whether planting now is still suitable. The rootball and autumn timing matter more here than the exact cultivar.

This is a yew with the yellow-green colour found in some cultivars. Its flat needles and dense growth fit yew well, and it looks healthy in the pot.

As it is container-grown, you can plant it out now. In late August, there is still a good chance of roots establishing before winter, even in Hartungviken, Sweden, but do not delay. Use well-drained soil, plant no deeper than it was in the pot and water thoroughly afterwards.

The main thing is to keep the ground evenly moist over the first few weeks unless there is substantial rain. A thin organic or bark mulch can help maintain moisture, but keep it away from the stem. If the site is very windy or winter sunshine is often strong, a somewhat sheltered position is better than a completely open one.
